State's Attorney Allison Traub (who said she changed her law‑license name to Allison Traub on July 20) briefed the board on jail population, juvenile diversion reimbursements and a recent law that affects the county's ability to conduct certain sexual‑assault exams.
"We have 64 inmates, 2 of which are juveniles," Traub said when summarizing the jail population. She told commissioners that a law effective July 1 limits who can perform sexual‑assault exams locally and can require victims to be transported to facilities with certified examiners; under that statute the county may be responsible for transportation costs and the county is working with local hospitals, law enforcement and victim‑service partners to identify staffing and funding solutions. Traub said current assault exam costs are about $1,200 and that transportation will be an additional expense.
Traub also discussed juvenile diversion statistics (244 referrals with 236 successful, a 91% success rate) and said the county should expect approximately $177,000 in reimbursement that will be allocated through local partners. For next year she requested funding to add an attorney as part of succession planning, saying current case loads are comparable with larger counties while the office is smaller.
The board received the report for discussion and budgeting; Traub said she will continue coordination with partners and return with budget details as needed.
