Shelter Island board sets timeline to finish comprehensive plan, eyes April public hearings

The Shelter Island town board agreed on a timetable to finish the town's comprehensive plan and to schedule public hearings this spring. Chair (S2) said the board plans to consolidate edits, bring in an InDesign-capable contractor to fix formatting, and return completed chapters to the board for review in March ahead of a Suffolk County Planning Commission referral.
"So hopefully, by the beginning of February, all of the changes will be made... delivering all chapters back to the town board by the beginning of March," Chair (S2) said. The board discussed keeping hybrid options and adding a Saturday hearing to improve access if venue size prevents effective hybrid participation.
Board members described specific editorial work: reconciling chapter sequencing, ensuring continuity for chapter 11, and confirming that edits from last year were incorporated. Committee member (S3) emphasized continuity, saying some action items had been renumbered and would need to be matched across chapters before public presentation.
The board tentatively identified April 27 for a first public hearing and discussed a May 2 Saturday option to increase access. They also signaled that any remaining open questions and highlights would be returned to the board for final review before onward referral to the county planning commission.
