Policy committee recommends updates to 10 of 12 school policies

The Policy Committee of the Mineral Point Unified School District met Feb. 5, 2025, in the MS/HS Library and recommended updates to 10 of the 12 policies it reviewed, the school board clerk announced. The meeting began at 6:00 p.m. and was attended by Chair Christie Johnston, Vice-Chair Joni Heisner, Dr. Dunn, Mitch Wainwright and Rachael Bergstrom.
"The committee recommends updates to 10 of the 12 policies reviewed," the School Board Clerk read during the meeting. The committee presented a single agenda item proposing edits and recommending that the revised policies be brought forward for first reading at a regular board meeting. The policies named included 443.7 (Responsible Use/Internet Safety), 446 (Student Search and Seizure), 447.3 and 447.4 (Student Suspensions/Expulsions), 511 (Discrimination and Harassment Complaint), 512 (Harassment Based on a Protected Status), 723 and 723.3 (School Safety Plans and Emergency School Closings), 832 (Weapons on School Premises), and 860 (Visitors to the Schools, including presence on school property).
The clerk also recorded that the committee tabled two policies — 449 (Student Complaints and Grievance) and 456 (Suicide Prevention/Intervention) — to await additional information. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. No formal motions or roll-call votes were recorded in the transcript of this Policy Committee meeting; the items were described as committee recommendations to be presented for first reading at a future regular board meeting.
