Hearing on 179 Washington Street continued to May 7 after notification and technical review issues
Summary
The commission continued the Notice of Intent for 179 Washington Street to May 7, 2026, after staff reported certified-mail notifications to abutters were returned unreadable and after detailed staff review flagged riparian-zone and alternatives-analysis requirements for proposed septic, well, and driveway changes.

The Conservation Commission continued the public hearing on a Notice of Intent for 179 Washington Street to May 7, 2026 to allow the applicant time to address technical review comments and resolve abutter-notification problems. The applicant proposes to demolish and replace the existing house on the same foundation, reconfigure the driveway, install a replacement septic system and new well, and add a porch and deck on piers; the site was flagged for wetlands in September 2025.
Conservation Agent Joyce Hastings told the commission that Dirty Meadow Brook creates a 200-foot riparian area affecting the project. Hastings noted the existing house sits within the 25-foot setback and the 50-foot no-alteration zone, meaning the applicant must provide an alternatives analysis and calculate mitigation for any expansion into protected zones. Hastings also recommended relocating the proposed well to reduce tree removal, saying she had suggested relocating “the well between flags 6 and 7, approximately 10 feet into the transitional wetland area, which would eliminate tree removal and allow access from behind the house.” The hearing was continued with the applicant's approval to allow revised plans and corrected abutter notifications to be filed.
