Conservation Commission issues negative determination for garage at 109 North Main Street

The Sherborn Conservation Commission on April 16 closed the Request for Determination of Applicability for work at 109 North Main Street and issued a Negative 3 determination, meaning the proposed detached garage may proceed with specified conditions. The vote to close the hearing and adopt the conditions passed by roll call, 4–0.
Applicant Matthew Anderson described the design approach, saying he was “pursuing a wall design with possible small additional grading to promote drainage away from the foundation and raise the average grade so the garage roof height complies with zoning requirements.” Conservation Agent Joyce Hastings told the commission that, because construction grading would occur within the very outer limits of the wetland 100-foot buffer, the commission should require straw waddles on the downhill side, stabilization seeding for any disturbed areas, that any brought fill meet town clean-fill specifications, and that contractors not stockpile materials in the buffer.
Commissioners asked for clarification about buffer boundaries and placement of erosion controls before voting. The motion to close the hearing as a negative determination (Negative 3) included the conditions described by staff; the roll call vote recorded ML, CE, JT, and JS as ‘‘aye.’’
