Lysander continues planning on data centers amid temporary moratorium and county study

Councilor Ed Schmitt and Supervisor Kevin Rode reported the town’s Data Center Committee is actively meeting and coordinating with the Village of Baldwinsville, Onondaga County and state officials. Schmitt said the committee meets Fridays at 9:00 AM in Town Hall and will discuss water usage at its next meeting; he noted Empire State Development will be drafting community planning guidance and that a Generic Environmental Impact Statement is being considered.
Supervisor Rode referenced Governor Executive Order No. 62 (a one-year moratorium on certain data-center approvals) and said the Board selected a six-month local moratorium because an entity is seeking utility and ISO approvals. He said the County has funded a $500,000 data-center study and encouraged residents to review Ongov.net for details. The board plans to use the moratorium period to evaluate possible local regulations, community benefits, and mitigation measures such as water-impact safeguards and infrastructure cost responsibilities.
