Board authorizes staff to draft regional industrial facilities authority documents

On July 9 the Board voted to authorize the County Administrator and economic development staff to collaborate with participating towns and legal counsel to draft governance documents for a potential Smyth Strong Regional Industrial Facilities Authority (RIFA). The motion, made by Saltville District Supervisor Roscoe Call and seconded by Jason Parris, passed unanimously.
Director of Community & Economic Development Kendra Hayden framed the work as a pathway to strengthen town-county cooperation on industrial development projects and to create a vehicle for grant applications and site development. The authorization directs staff to prepare draft agreements and governance documents for future Board consideration; no binding intergovernmental agreement was approved at the July 9 meeting.
