City staff told the commission the planning board reviewed the presence of U-Haul trucks and trailers at Sherrill Plaza and concluded the vehicles are not an allowed use in C-1 zoning. "The U Haul trucks over there is not or shouldn't be in allowed use in a c 1," the city official said when describing the board's finding.
A letter from the planning board chairman and the city codes officer was sent to the property owner advising them of the finding; the owner has a period to either remove the vehicles or apply for a use variance to be heard by the zoning board. Staff emphasized that aesthetics are beyond the town's authority and that enforcement must follow the New York State property maintenance code and existing city ordinances. No variance decision was recorded at the meeting.
