Shelter Island district treasurer to retire; board approves multiple personnel items

At its regular meeting the Shelter Island Board of Education approved personnel recommendations by motion that covered schedule C appointments, multiple extra teaching periods, sick-day grants, a leave-replacement appointment and the acceptance of District Treasurer Deborah Vecchio’s resignation effective June 30, 2025.
The board approved Jessica King as School Play Choreographer (Schedule C) and multiple extra teaching periods retroactive to early February for several teachers (Maggie Manarel, Janine Mahoney, Jennifer Gulluscio, Debra Sears and Peter Miedema) with specified rates noted in the personnel motion. The board also approved a leave replacement appointment for Kelsey Northcote (effective Feb. 12–Mar. 3, 2025) at a pro‑rated salary and granted nine additional sick days to Elizabeth Eklund in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The board accepted Ms. Vecchio’s retirement notice with appreciation and recorded thanks from multiple members and administrators.
