Aramark manager says district will get fresher options; summer meals possible next year

Aramark District Manager Grace Maschinski told the Shelter Island board the company will provide healthier, fresh options and is exploring serving meals over the summer; district leaders said summer service would be a new program and—if approved—would start next summer.
At the Aug. 20 special meeting, Grace Maschinski, introduced by district staff as Aramark’s District Manager and a Southold resident with over 15 years in child nutrition, described the vendor’s priorities for Shelter Island students and staff. Maschinski said Aramark is already present in other school districts and emphasized customer service and fresh, healthy choices for students.
Maschinski said there are new possibilities under the contract, "including having meals served over the summer to ensure that no child goes hungry." Superintendent Brian Doelger and Todd Gulluscio said that summer meal service would be a new program for the district and, if implemented, would not begin until next summer. The board and staff said they will complete hiring and return with implementation details before the program begins.
