Shelter Island board unanimously awards food-service contract to Aramark

The Shelter Island Union Free School District Board of Education unanimously approved on Aug. 20 the award of Food Service Management Bid #2024-2025-01C to Aramark of Philadelphia, PA and authorized the board president and superintendent to execute the contract. The motion to accept the superintendent’s recommendation was made by Margaret Colligan and seconded by Anthony Rando; the minutes record that the motion "carried unanimously."
District Director of Athletics and Personnel Todd Gulluscio described the change as a first step toward revamping the district cafeteria and said staffing will include three positions: a full-time district cook, a part-time district food service worker, and a full-time Aramark food service manager who will be housed in the district. Gulluscio said the new program moves away from frozen options: "the days of frozen pizza squares are gone as this new program provides freshly made pizza." Superintendent Brian Doelger confirmed the district met candidates earlier in the day and that decisions on hires will follow.
