District reports surge in cafeteria participation, athletic honors and schedules opioid speaker series

Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health, Wellness & Personnel Todd Gulluscio told the board the district will receive its ninth consecutive NYSPHSAA School of Distinction Award and reviewed schedules for upcoming JV and varsity sports.
Gulluscio also reported a marked increase in cafeteria participation in the first week of school—227 meals in 2023 compared with 714 in 2024—and said feedback on the new food service has been "overwhelmingly positive." He announced an Opioid speaker series with student assemblies and evening sessions for parents and community members scheduled for Sept. 25, Oct. 25 and Nov. 13; students will attend daytime assemblies and faculty/staff will have a Q&A opportunity. Board Member Anthony Rando and District staff encouraged public participation and noted the district will be first in New York State to implement the Opioid DARE curriculum, according to Rando.
Why it matters: increased meal participation affects food-service revenue and student nutrition availability; the opioid program represents a new prevention effort with schoolwide assemblies and community education.
