Planning Commission initiates zoning updates for solar, energy storage and utilities

The Caroline County Planning Commission voted May 28 to initiate amendments to the zoning ordinance to address uses, structures and equipment related to solar energy, energy storage, and power generation and transmission. Chairman Richard Williams moved the initiation and Lee Tingler seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Planning Director B. Leon Hughes said staff views the changes as required by public necessity, convenience and good zoning practice. The action begins the formal drafting process; the commission will review draft language and schedule public hearings as required under the zoning ordinance and state code.
