The Plan Commission approved the proposed central mailbox location for the Rissy 7th subdivision on the condition the developer meets U.S. Postal Service and ADA requirements.
Staff explained the proposed mailbox would sit on Lot 112 in a 7-by-7-foot easement near the northern curve of the development and that the post office requires the mailbox to face the street and be verified on-site before installation. "ADA requires for a central mailbox in this location that... the path needs to be 5 foot wide, and then you've gotta have a crosswalk painted," staff said. Staff also noted the post office's mailbox specifications are ADA-compliant in height and arrangement and recommended approval with the stated conditions and an on-site meeting with the post office.
A developer representative, Chris Jerry of National Home Corporation, spoke on behalf of the applicant and said he had no substantive additions but echoed cooperation between the city and the developer: "I just wanna, kinda echo the... cooperation between the city and... my client." Commissioners asked about sightlines and pedestrian visibility; staff said the technical review committee, street department and surveyor reviewed the location and approved it subject to the post office and ADA conditions.
