The Wheaton City Council unanimously passed Ordinance O‑2026‑12 on March 16, 2026, amending Chapter 26 (Tobacco) to raise the minimum age to possess any tobacco product from 18 to 21 and to prohibit sales through vending machines. City Manager Michael Dzugan told the Council the change aligns the municipal code with state law and addresses vending‑machine sales.
"This item increases the minimum age to possess any tobacco product from 18 to 21, aligning with state law, and prohibits the sale of tobacco through vending machines," City Manager Michael Dzugan stated. The roll call vote listed all seven councilmembers as voting aye and the ordinance carried unanimously.
