Tarkington ISD voters reject Propositions A and B; board weighs refile timing

Tarkington ISD officials reported that voters rejected both bond propositions in the May election (Proposition A: 281–695; Proposition B: 249–724) and were told the district can refile for November 2025 (file by Aug. 18) or May 2026 (file by Feb. 13).
School Board President Lane Gulledge convened a special-called meeting May 14 so district officials could report final results from the recent bond election and outline next steps.
Chief Financial Officer Thad Lasater told trustees that both measures were defeated. "The voters did not approve Proposition A. There were 281 votes in favor and 695 votes against," Lasater said, and he reported also that "The voters did not approve Proposition B. There were 249 votes in favor and 724 votes against." Lasater explained the district's options for a new bond election and the filing deadlines: to place a proposition on the November 2025 ballot the district must file by August 18, 2025, or to place it on the May 2026 ballot the district must file by February 13, 2026.
No board discussion followed the presentation and no public comments were made at the meeting. The district indicated it will need to decide whether to call another election under current law and choose which filing window to use.
