Joe Farley, speaking for the electric department, reviewed a portfolio of distribution and feeder projects across the city's service territory. He highlighted a West Russell/Charles Street upgrade designed to shift load from the Live Oak substation to another feeder, and a new construction serving a large commercial development labeled "Weatherford Point" near Interstate 20 and Costco.
"Weatherford Point, it's on I 20 just across from Costco," Farley said while describing the ongoing construction on that underground feeder and the department's coordination with CenterPoint. Farley also described feeder work along South 51 and a planned new feeder tie from Bankhead Drive to CenterPoint Road to strengthen north-of‑I‑20 capacity. He listed several residential developments in varying stages (Rangewood, Waterford Park, Remington Ridge, Chisholm Trail, Legacy Longhorn, Avilla Lockwood, Morningside, Heritage Park, Heritage Trails, Heritage Hills) and said the utility is preparing to serve roughly 1,100 potential new meters across projects.
Board members asked about joint-construction coordination with other utilities and safety considerations at active construction sites; staff said some projects require extended coordination and recommended temporary fencing where construction laydown areas are adjacent to busy pedestrian zones. Farley said the department will continue regular updates as projects progress.
