Natomas Unified raises custodial portion of facilities-use rate to $55 an hour to recover costs

Trustees approved a district recommendation to increase the personnel-and-supplies component of facilities-use fees from the prior $29 per hour to $55 per hour, citing 16 years without an update and higher wage and supply costs.
Associate Superintendent Doug Orr explained the district's current $29/hour charge was set in 2009 and that rising staff wages, increased custodial costs and greater public use have produced about a $100,000 shortfall this year for custodial coverage of community facility uses. "This is just to cover personnel costs and supply costs," Orr told the board. The proposed change is scheduled to take effect with the next fee roll-out in July; the board left stadium and other facility rental rates unchanged.
Trustees moved approval and the motion passed by unanimous consent (5-0). Staff said the increase is intended to make facility rentals cost-neutral rather than generate new revenue.
