The planning commission chair (speaker 7) told council that the commission27s duties are prescribed by the South Carolina Planning Act and municipal code, and that most commission work is advisory to council though some powers are state-prescribed. "We really act primarily as, as a, you know, advice and guidance," the chair said.
The chair supported hiring a consultant who attends local meetings and understands Central27s specific issues, saying that continuity would save time and money. He described plans to create subcommittees to handle the intensive work of the six-month update so the commission could continue its regular duties, and said he expected the full review to take the full six months before coming back to council for approval.
