The board opened a public hearing to consider the administration's intent to rehire retiree Brent Schafer as the district IT director, effective Sept. 1, 2026. The chair read the item and asked for public comment; none was offered.
Trustees who spoke described Schafer as an "outstanding employee" and said rehiring him would be a cost-saving and continuity measure until a long-term succession plan is implemented. "This is a savings for us. This is an outstanding employee that has done a lot for the district," the Chair said, adding that staff will work on succession planning when Schafer retires.
No formal vote on the rehiring was recorded during the public hearing portion of the work session; staff indicated the matter would proceed through the normal personnel process and appear on the consent/regular meeting agenda as required.
