Chief Peacock described safety and design features, saying the pump system is independent: “That's one of the safety things implemented into them is where the firefighting pump operates completely individually.” Council members pressed for clarification because the Buy Board quote showed a 2-wheel drive entry; the council made the approval contingent on confirmation of a 4x4 chassis and included a 10% contingency in the line-item authorization to cover potential tariff or price changes. The motion carried.
Council discussion touched on residual value of retired apparatus and on options to offer retired vehicles to mutual-aid partners. Staff also explained manufacturer lead times and regional vendor support as part of the procurement rationale.
