Facilities staff explained that custodial staff found about a half‑inch to an inch of standing water in four classrooms and saturated walls and furniture when staff arrived Monday morning. "Because of the emergency and if we didn't act right away, further damage would happen and cost even more money," facilities staff said, describing immediate mitigation, equipment mobilization and temporary relocations of classes.
The board moved to waive formal bidding because of the emergency and approved the contract on a roll call; Helene recorded the unanimous vote. Trustees thanked staff for the rapid response and emphasized the need to restore classrooms ahead of summer programming.
The board noted the emergency resolution meets the standard for waiving bidding in urgent circumstances and asked staff to report back on repair completion and costs.
