Rockdale Tiger Special Olympics athletes medal at Waco meet; district thanks education foundation grant

Assistant Superintendent Tiffany Whitsel told the Board on May 14 that the Rockdale Tiger Special Olympics team completed its inaugural season and competed at the Track and Field Meet at Hart Patterson Track in Waco on April 12, 2025.
Whitsel listed individual student results and placements across events and age categories, including: Jaylen Delz (18+) — 4th place 100-meter run and 5th place softball throw; Zackary Rubio (18+) — 4th place 50-meter run and 2nd place softball throw; Jaden Farr (RHS) — 2nd place 25-meter run and 1st place tennis ball throw; Melissa Martinez (RHS) — 1st place 25-meter run and 1st place softball throw; Ethan Shugart (RHS) — 1st place 100-meter run and 1st place standing long jump; and several others. She named track and field coaches Mackenzie Heintze, Mackenzie Musto, Melissa Tiberlake, Shailee Miller, Katherine Shannon and Cindy Willis and thanked Rachael Barker for her support.
Whitsel credited a grant from the Rockdale Education Foundation with making participation possible and said the district looks forward to Season 2. The report was presented as an informational update and no board action was taken.
