Presenters said the EHR modernization grant is intended as the first technology investment under CalRHT and that additional funding opportunities for other technology and workforce initiatives are planned for future budget periods.
"EHR modernization is the start. It's the foundation, and there are many other technology needs that rural facilities have, whether it be cybersecurity or revenue cycle management, interoperability..." Jacob Parkinson said, adding that future programs may include telehealth, eConsults, consumer‑facing tools and other investments subject to funding availability and CMS approval.
Jennifer Hernandez encouraged attendees to subscribe to the program listserv and to monitor the HCAI website for updates on budget period 2, which she said will be clarified later in winter/early 2027. Presenters said they will post slides, the recording and consolidated Q&A materials on the program page.
