District to replace written narratives with dropdown comments on elementary report card

Presenter (S6) told the group the changes to ratings, learner qualities and quarterly expectations produced a clear enough picture of student progress that the narrative section is no longer necessary. "So in place of the narrative there will be a set of drop down comments such as student participates in intervention," the presenter said, adding that the dropdowns will include some positive comments teachers commonly used in narratives.
The presenters framed the change as a way to keep communications clear while reducing duplicative work for teachers. They said examples will include targeted comments for interventions, notes about gifted programming, and positive reinforcement statements so teachers can still highlight individual strengths without retyping long narratives.
