Kearney approves Redgate contract for trash, recycling; residents face $2.67 monthly rise

City Administrator Sheila Aronson reviewed the results of the city’s procurement for residential solid waste and recycling after the existing contract expires Dec. 31. Four contractors submitted bids; Redgate Disposal provided the lowest and best bid, offered credits for recyclables, and added a scheduled weekly bulky‑item pickup (by resident request) in addition to annual spring and fall cleanup days. Aronson said Redgate will deliver carts beginning Dec. 9 and begin regular service the week of Jan. 6.
Aronson told the board the typical resident would see a $2.67 monthly increase for a single trash and single recycle cart, and an additional $4.36 for a second cart. She said the contract includes penalties for missed pickups and allows annual rate‑adjustment requests subject to board approval. The board motioned, seconded and unanimously approved Resolution 54‑2024 to enter the contract with Redgate Disposal LLC.
