Resident wins approval to install portrait of late Assemblyman Frank Skartados at Marlborough community center

At the Aug. 11 Town Board meeting, resident Al Lanzetta formally requested permission to install a framed photographic portrait of the late Assemblyman Frank Skartados in the Marlborough Community Center and offered to help coordinate framing and a dedication ceremony.
Lanzetta highlighted Skartados’ contributions to the Hudson Valley and the community center, saying the assemblyman "was instrumental in securing funding in the amount of $250,000.00 for the development of the community center." He suggested an inscription reading: "Assemblyman Frank Skartados July 4, 1970 – April 15, 2018 ‘He was a workhorse, not a show horse.'" The Board discussed adding a plaque recognizing contributors, possibly dedicating a room in Skartados’ name and ensuring the portrait’s placement would not interfere with event rentals. The board gave Mr. Lanzetta approval to proceed and scheduled a follow-up to finalize details.
The approval is discretionary (a nonbinding board courtesy) to allow community commemoration in a town facility; no expenditure by the town was recorded in the minutes for framing or a ceremony.
