The Whitehall School District board approved two teacher hires presented by Superintendent Hannah Eastkins.
Eastkins recommended Ricky Wanakott for the high-school social studies position, noting he was a recent MSU graduate who lives in Butte and "will be a commuter teacher for us." The board moved and approved the hire. The board also approved hiring Leanna Rosales to a special education teaching position; Eastkins said Rosales currently works for the district as a para, holds a doctorate in education, and previously worked for the Oregon State Police and as an adjunct professor. A committee member moved to hire Rosales and the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
The hires were presented as routine personnel actions; the transcript records discussion clarifying the scope of Rosales's classroom (K-8 special education students) and procedural questions from a board member about eligibility to move/second motions depending on which school the member represents.
