Council members discussed recruiting and retaining emergency personnel and the administrative burden facing the volunteer Trout Lake Fire Department (TLFD).
Aaron Schmid said the department needs a paid staff member to assist volunteers with recordkeeping and equipment inventory required by the state. The council agreed to explore conversations with TLFD about supporting a levy to fund a paid position. Daina Bambe warned that a lack of affordable housing in the area can affect long‑term services, citing that a DNR engine is no longer based locally in part because of limited applicants.
