Jackson County board approves TSIP application to improve sight distance on 395th Avenue

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 12 to submit a FY27 Transportation Safety Improvement Program (TSIP) application seeking funds to make safety improvements on 395th Avenue, including paved shoulders, shoulder and centerline rumble strips and a partial horizontal realignment.
An agency official outlined the proposal, saying the work would straighten and slightly flatten a vertical curve near the 395th Avenue and 308th Street intersection to improve sight distance where crops and topography now limit visibility. He said the county intends to realign a portion of the roadway and anticipates requiring roughly four acres of right-of-way for the change. The same scope had been included in a previously unsuccessful RAISE grant, the presenter said, and the TSIP application would reuse that design work.
Supervisor Mike Sinus moved to approve the application; Supervisor Nim Flagle seconded and the motion carried on a voice vote. The agency official said staff would reach out to adjacent landowners before construction if the grant is awarded and that, whether or not the county receives TSIP money, a road-rehab project on that corridor will proceed in its current location.
“Part of it is to put paved shoulders and rope shoulder rumbles on it as well as centerline rumbles,” the agency official said, describing the safety elements the county plans to pursue. The board recorded no detailed vote tally beyond the motion passing by voice vote.
