County EMS coordinator reports training plans and AED supply challenges

Michael Storm, identified as the county medical/EMS coordinator, told the board the county has been coordinating scope-of-practice updates and regional training. He said the county may receive additional Region 5 funds (an estimated $10,000–$20,000 beyond a base allocation) and plans to host fall/winter EMT and EMR classes that would offer discounted tuition when county staff teach.
"We brought in over a $100,000 of revenue in our 1st year," Storm said when describing prior regional grant and equipment grants he managed. He also raised a practical equipment problem: AED pad kits are back-ordered in many places, complicating compliance for public venues and hampering replacement of expired pads. Storm said he was exploring loaner options and alternate suppliers while working with the hospital and NICC on training and procurement.
Storm and supervisors agreed to continue pursuing grant funds and to coordinate training schedules for county staff, jail personnel and the public. He said a formal estimate of grant awards and class sign-up dates should be available later in the month.
