Fire Chief Nathan Kappel gave the department’s annual update and described funding plans for equipment needs. He said there were no significant changes to his prior budget request but that the department plans to use donations and grants to purchase battery-operated tools and one or two SCBA units; he also said all helmets will need replacement when current units expire in July 2025.
Kappel said the department intends to start saving toward the next pumper truck purchase. No formal council action was required at the meeting; the requests were presented as part of the department’s FY2026 budget planning.
