Resident urges sidewalks and lower speed on Progress Lane; town says Duke Energy, NCDOT must act

During public comment on July 6, resident Nicholas Wylie told the Board that Progress Lane lacks lighting and sidewalks and asked for the speed limit to be reduced to 35 miles per hour.
"Progress Lane is lacking both lighting and sidewalks," Wylie said, and he asked the Board to improve the intersection in the curve. Town Manager Mike Koser responded that there is currently no power available on Progress Lane and that he will need to consult with Duke Energy. Koser also said that installation of sidewalks would need to be carried out by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Public Works Director Jacob Swaim later confirmed that utilities and street standards (including NCDOT standard streets with curbs and gutters and required sidewalks) will be considerations for any infrastructure work in the area. The Board did not take immediate action on a speed-limit change during the meeting; follow-up with Duke Energy and NCDOT was identified as the next administrative step.
