Jason Leefers of Shoreline Aquatics presented the board with a plan to restore and maintain the park pond, recommending a bottom-diffused aeration system with six diffusers driven by one compressor and a 3-horsepower, 230-volt fountain. "Really it is the best tool available for long-term health," Leefers said, explaining the system’s purpose is to circulate bottom water, increase oxygen, and support beneficial bacteria to reduce weeds and algae.
Leefers described installation requirements: running 230V power to the shoreline, a lockable metal cabinet for the compressor, conduit for hoses across the pond bottom, and a subpanel with separate breakers for the fountain and aeration system. He advised a gradual break-in schedule (one hour day one, two hours day two, then ramp up to continuous operation over several days) to avoid rapid oxygen changes that could kill fish. He also recommended removing the fountain each winter to avoid ice damage and noted routine compressor rebuilds will be needed every 18–24 months.
Why it matters: trustees raised vandalism and placement concerns and asked staff to verify power access; Leefers said the compressor cabinet can be located up to a quarter-mile away if necessary, which may affect costs.
