Kenilworth authorizes temporary use of police range and lockup by Wilmette while its range is under construction

The Village Board authorized an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Wilmette to permit auxiliary use of Kenilworth Police Department facilities while Wilmette’s firearm qualification facility is under construction. Police Chief Donicio Silva told trustees Wilmette has secured other alternate sites but asked to add Kenilworth’s firing range and prisoner lockup as auxiliary options. Chief Silva said WPD had been informed of Kenilworth’s rules and "has agreed to abide by them."
Trustees clarified the shared-use timeframe would encompass the remainder of FY2026 and all of FY2027, and President Cecily Kaz noted Wilmette intends to use Cook County correctional facilities as a first resort. Trustee Tim Ransford moved to authorize the agreement, Trustee John Gottschall seconded, and the voice vote was all in favor.
