Supervisor Colleen Corcoran introduced a local law on Oct. 27 to amend Section 137 of the Town Code governing tax exemptions for senior citizens and scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. "The public hearing will be held ... on November 10, 2025 at 7:00 o'clock p.m., prevailing time," the board's notice states.
The proposed law would revise income thresholds and the percentage of assessed valuation exempt from taxation for qualifying seniors; the resolution cites the New York State Constitution, New York Municipal Home Rule Law §10 and New York Real Property Tax Law §467 and notes the change as a Type II SEQRA action that requires no further environmental review. The board introduced the local law and directed that copies of the proposed text be available at the Town Clerk's office for public inspection before the hearing.
Board members noted the exemption criteria "hasn’t been updated since 1994," according to remarks at the meeting, and residents will have an opportunity to comment at the Nov. 10 public hearing at Town Hall. The notice instructs that all citizens and parties of interest shall have an opportunity to be heard on the proposal.
