Comal County unveils $7M 2026 paving plan, aims for 70 miles of work

"We have a budget of about $7,000,000 for road construction," Robert said, adding that the office expects to be able to bid asphalt at $71 per ton in 2026. He told the court the department has set up a pavement fulfillment dashboard to track deliveries during paving operations and outlined an "aggressive plan to try to hit 70 miles" this year, noting progress remains dependent on manpower, equipment and weather.
The presentation emphasized that phase 1 (failure repair) is preparatory work and that residents sometimes mistake it for poor paving until final lifts and striping are completed. County officials said the fixed 2026 asphalt price allows better cost forecasting but that prices will need rebidding in 2027. The court did not vote on funding at the briefing; the roadmap was presented as an informational update and staff fielded no follow-up questions.
