Comal County Commissioners read and approved several proclamations honoring local institutions and observances.
The court recognized the 7 Dutchmen Orchestra for receiving the Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas Historical Commission. Members of the group came forward to accept the proclamation; one band representative thanked the court and invited the public to a Mayfest performance, saying, "It's an honor to accept this on behalf of all the folks that are up here today." The court also declared May 2026 as Small Business Week and named Kevin Carroll of Christian Brothers Automotive as the county's small-businessperson of the year. Carroll accepted and reflected on community support, saying he was "grateful" for the recognition and highlighting his franchise's local philanthropy.
The court approved a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month; a representative from local mental-health partners thanked the court and urged community support and destigmatization. The commissioners also approved a proclamation observing May 15, 2026, as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 2026 as National Police Week and authorized tinting the courthouse bell tower lights blue in observance.
Why it matters: The proclamations highlight civic awards, local small-business leadership and community observances the county uses to recognize local institutions and causes.
