County libraries report rising use; East Palo Alto branch shows growth, staff urge support for new facility

San Mateo County Libraries’ interim manager, Kelly Reinicker, briefed the council on the system’s annual report and strategic-plan update, highlighting rising usage and community programs.
Reinicker said the countywide system circulated more than 2.4 million items and saw roughly 1.7 million visits in the past fiscal year; East Palo Alto’s branch recorded about 70,000 visitors and circulated 44,000 items locally. “East Palo Alto Library had about 70,000 library visitors last year, and we circulated 44,000 items,” Reinicker said, noting program growth and bilingual staff capacity.
Councilmembers thanked library staff and reiterated support for advancing funding for a new, larger library facility. The county library team said they will continue outreach and program expansion while working with the city on planning and fundraising for a new building.
