Ames council to form study committee on data-center environmental impacts

Hayler said the intent is to recruit outside subject-matter experts — for example from Iowa State University or private industry — rather than relying solely on city staff, and that the council is seeking unbiased information to inform future decisions. No final regulatory decisions will be made at the upcoming meeting; the committee is intended to collect and present factual studies.
The announcement follows ongoing council discussion of how to balance economic development and potential environmental and health concerns related to large-scale computing facilities in and near the city.
