Grimes County schedules Sept. 30 special meeting to interview candidates for county clerk

The Grimes County Commissioners Court voted to hold a special meeting on September 30 to interview candidates for the county clerk position and authorized the county HR director to contact applicants and set the interview schedule.

County Judge Joe Fass moved the measure, proposing that the first interview begin at 9 a.m. and continue in one-hour intervals at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. “I’m going to make the motion that we hold a special meeting for commissioner’s court on Tuesday, September 20, starting at 9AM,” the mover said, later clarifying the date as September 30 when the schedule was finalized. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Michael Raskin and approved by voice vote; the chair declared the motion carried.

The court noted it had met in executive session on personnel matters under Texas Government Code §551.074 before returning to public session and taking the scheduling action. The court’s stated purpose for the special meeting is strictly to interview potential candidates to replace the county clerk; no hiring decision was recorded during the session.

The court also granted the HR director permission to contact candidates and set interview appointments. The schedule proposed in the motion calls for four one-hour interview slots beginning at 9 a.m., but the court’s formal motion delegates final appointment-setting to HR.
