Comal County issues proclamations for water safety, community action and military appreciation; historic preservation awards presented

Comal County Commissioners Court approved a series of proclamations honoring water safety, community action and military service and presented a historic‑preservation award to local residents.

The court approved a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as National Water Safety Month, urging residents to use life jackets and observe water‑safety rules. A representative accepting the proclamation thanked the court and said drowning is largely preventable with basic safety practices: “Drowning is almost always preventable,” the presenter said.

The court also approved a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Community Action Month in honor of the Community Council of South Central Texas, and Bobby Dyke, the agency’s executive director, described services for elderly households, veterans and families in need. The commissioners approved a third proclamation recognizing Military Appreciation Month and welcomed veterans’ representatives who urged assistance for veterans with mental‑health needs and reminded the public about crisis resources (dial 988).

In a separate recognition, the Comal County Historical Commission presented the Frederick Freeholz Jr. Historic Preservation Award to Tim and Elizabeth Barker for restoration work on historic structures in New Braunfels; Tim Barker accepted and recounted acquiring and restoring the property and protecting structures through a conservation easement with a San Antonio land trust.
