BOH authorizes Stop & Shop correction plan; Mikado to receive monthly inspections

At its Jan. 15 meeting the Board of Health authorized a written plan of correction to be required of Stop & Shop and set a schedule of follow-up inspections for Mikado.
Assistant Health Agent Fred Hehre told commissioners that most food-permit renewals have been submitted, though more than half of the submittals will be assessed late fees. The board voted to approve a letter requiring Stop & Shop to provide a written correction plan for ongoing refrigeration and food-safety concerns. Commissioner Dr. George Santos moved to authorize sending the correction-letter authorization and Commissioner Malcolm Boyd seconded; Chair Jeff Pratt called the roll and recorded all ayes. Hehre said he will finalize and distribute the letter to Stop & Shop.
On Mikado, Hehre reported that the restaurant has shown significant improvement since being allowed to reopen in December. Its food permit was issued Dec. 22 and inspections on Dec. 19 and Dec. 31 showed improved handling practices; the BOH will conduct at least monthly inspections going forward to ensure a pattern of compliance.
