Drew Belsky said a large commercial flock in Edgartown was culled last week following an avian influenza detection. He recommended the BOH coordinate education for chicken farmers and backyard flock owners to reduce risk to at-home birds through improved biosecurity practices.
The board did not vote on new rules at the Jan. 15 meeting but discussed education and outreach as priorities. Belsky said the department will inform local agricultural and animal‑health stakeholders and recommended the BOH consider targeted materials for small-scale flock owners.
