Elections office seeks National Voter Registration Day proclamation; administrator’s out-of-state travel approved

Rachel Walker, Grimes County Elections Administrator, asked the commissioners to adopt a resolution declaring Sept. 16, 2025 as National Voter Registration Day and described planned voter-registration locations: the Elections Office in Anderson (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.), volunteer deputy registrars at Classic Rock Cafe in Navasota (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), Todd Mission City Hall (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), and Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 in Iola (10 a.m.–2 p.m.). The office plans events to give residents an opportunity to register or update registration information ahead of the upcoming election.
Walker also said she had been awarded a scholarship to attend an advocacy day (organized by a project for election infrastructure) in Washington, D.C., to meet members of Congress and advocate for increased HAVA grant funding; she said the trip is fully paid but county policy required court approval for out-of-state travel. The court approved both the National Voter Registration Day resolution and the elections administrator’s out-of-state travel request.
The court’s action included adopting the resolution and authorizing the county judge as signatory on the resolution and approving travel per county policy.
