Trustee concern led to a motion to pause approval and pursue competitive procurement and legal review. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Trustees also pressed staff on timing: vendors said installations could begin immediately if approved, allowing cameras to be installed in early weeks of the school year; staff acknowledged the grant deadline for spending runs through June 30, 2027, but said earlier installation would better serve student safety. Board members asked staff to provide a copy of the contract, documentation justifying any single-source claim, and comparisons (e.g., MetaSolutions/cooperative prices) so the board can evaluate apples-to-apples pricing and technology compatibility before any award.
Because trustees voted to seek competitive procurement and consult legal counsel, the district will pause immediate award to the proposed vendor and gather additional procurement documentation for a future decision.
