Middletown moves to operationalize riverfront master plan after $12 million state grant for remediation

Mayor Florsheim reported the city was awarded a $12 million grant from the state's Community Investment Fund to operationalize the first phase of the riverfront master plan. The funds are intended for environmental cleanup, remediation and demolition of prioritized city-owned riverfront parcels — specifically mentioned were the former Peterson Oil site, the former water-and-sewer treatment facility and the former Jackson Corrugated site — and the administration said it has run an RFI and conducted a site walk for interested firms.
The mayor said the city will assemble an interview committee (with council involvement) to select a licensed environmental professional to serve as project manager and coordinate with economic and community development staff. Once contracted, the remediation team will begin the first stage of preparing sites for reinvestment; the mayor said the council will participate in the selection process and forthcoming oversight work.
