Commissioners approve Hispanic Heritage and Star-Spangled Banner proclamations

The Grimes County Commissioners Court approved two proclamations presented by Cathy Wells, chair of the Grimes County Historical Commission.
Wells asked the court to proclaim Sept. 20, 2025 as Hispanic Heritage Day to recognize the Hispanic Heritage Festival and the long history of Hispanic pioneers in the county. She also presented a corrected proclamation recognizing Sept. 17, 2025 as Star-Spangled Banner Day and summarized historical background about Mary Pickersgill and the Fort McHenry flag that inspired Francis Scott Key.
Both proclamations were moved and seconded by commissioners and approved without further discussion; Wells provided two copies of the Hispanic Heritage proclamation to be signed by the county judge and filed with the county clerk.
