The Grimes County Commissioners Court approved a new weekday business rate for the Expo & Fairgrounds main hall to make the facility more accessible for local businesses during standard business hours.
Facilities Director Rodney Floyd proposed a $1,250 rate for Monday–Thursday business use (roughly 8 a.m.–5 p.m.) to cover routine cleaning and utilities; after-hours events with food and alcohol will continue to be charged $2,500. Floyd said comparable counties and local nonprofit venues informed the proposed price point and that routine cleaning and electricity account for about $500 of costs for an eight-hour period.
County Judge Joe Fouth made the motion to add the business-rate option with the understanding that after-hours events will remain subject to the higher fee; the motion passed unanimously. The change is intended to encourage use of county facilities by local businesses and nonprofit groups during daytime hours.
