During public comment at the June 15 meeting, several residents raised concerns about water taste, a swampy odor and sediment in household supplies. Village Clerk David Griffith read an email from a resident thanking DPW for a prompt response, and multiple residents showed examples of filters that required frequent replacement.
Engineer Sean Hoffman said the village tests multiple locations and receives lab results through the county, noting the Department of Health requires a residual chlorine of at least 0.5 milligrams per liter. “They require a .5 milligram per liter, they had 1.1, .96, and .74,” Hoffman said, adding that those results are above the minimum and that instances of visible sediment or odor should be reported so DPW can investigate specific addresses.
The Board asked DPW to follow up with residents who reported issues and collect address-level information for targeted sampling. Attorney Liz Cassidy clarified that water quality is overseen jointly with the Department of Health and that recordkeeping and any violation notifications would be issued through that regulatory channel.
The public also referenced prior local incidents and a company name (Nepera Chemical) during the discussion; no formal claim or evidence of contamination was presented during the meeting, and no regulatory action was announced. The Board encouraged residents to contact DPW with specific addresses so staff and engineers can perform localized testing.
